We woke up to so much frost that Little Bird thought it had snowed.

Great big crystals formed around blades of grass and along the bark of fallen limbs.

Hot chocolate to warm busy little homeschooling hands.

A trip to the farm for fresh milk… to talk with the chickens… making peace with the rooster that was waring with Kater…

I’ll have to this weekend.

I wish I didn’t for the sake of time at home with family… I miss them and treasure time we can be quiet together.  But if one is going to ‘work’ I think I have a most excellent job. Riding on a train. Reading ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas… singing Jingle Bells… seeing the wonder of the North Pole reflected on little faces…

Anticipation.

Preparation.

The chill, the damp, and the post-nasil drip of the winter season.

The wool socks are out of storage.  My sandals have been put away. The heat is turned on.

One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp

She’s more choppy in her writing style then I am – more like jme’s writing.

I use more words and say less.

I’d been wanting to read it for nearly a year, but never actually bought it.  I finally decided to just get it, and discovered a little leftover money in my Amazon account!  Then it came, along with a few other books, and was forgotten on the bottom of the pile.

‘Till I wanted a book to read during the down time while I’m working on the train…

So Sunday night I started reading… in the cold damp space I have to stand in the vestibule between the cars.  And hated to put it down.

We are all SO blessed.

We just forget to notice.

We want what we think we’re missing.  I know I have things I’ve been “missing” for years.  And the truth is, if I’m really honest, they aren’t missing at all.  I have something else.  Something less, but so much more.

The ‘What Ifs’ are meaning less to me this week then they ever have before.

And the NOW is meaning so much more…
